This is a Christian novel that will appeal to the devout. It follows the ‘adventures’ of two brothers Chandran and Aashish, who, through their religious zeal, bomb a marathon. This, of course, echoes the Boston Marathon bombings. The Angels Gabriel and Michael search for the righteous so that America won’t be destroyed like Sodom and have trouble finding those who fit the bill. My difficulties with the novel was that so many good people (the police, the mother of the little girl in the marathon, etc.) are considered ‘not righteous’ enough to save the modern day Sodom. Everything is painted as black or white—you are either a devout Christian or you deserve to perish. Also, much of the writing seemed stilted—the thoughts/conversations that are written seemed unrealistic and unnatural. Still, the story is interesting and the quest of the Angels is fascinating at times. My suggestion is don’t read this unless you are Christian.

5 stars... I couldn't put this book down.
I didn't see this coming but enjoyed the trip despite some biblical inaccuracies.
It's thought provoking and inspiring. We all need to sit up and take notice because God is surely once again searching for the righteous and we should all strive to be counted.
Good book with a lot of "meat" and definitely worth reading.
This thriller kept me mesmerized from the time I started reading until I finished and I am looking forward to reading the next installment. The characterizations are so well done I felt compassion for the bad guys and was enamored of the good guys; but both of them were portrayed as very human. there were no fake characters. I recommend it to anyone who likes a thriller whether or not they are Christian.
This is a very powerful book, as it draws very close similarities to the biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah, two cities that were destroyed after they turned their back on God. We are living in a society that has turned its back on the spiritual for the glory of pleasures and corruption. The two angels Michael and Gabriel try to find 5000 righteous people in order to convince God to save our world from his anger. The book is very well written and easy to read. 5 stars!
It seems to me that this book is a story relating of future prophecies of the fate awaiting the hegemonic powers as God becomes disillusioned with the havoc people are wrecking on Earth due to their greed, fight for power and indulgence in lust. Finding the truly righteous people becomes an uphill task for two angels dispatched to search for 5000 kind souls to redeem the world. All in all, though I had slight issues trying to figure out the happenings in the various chapters because there are different groups of people involved in the plot, the message about the pending Judgment Day for mankind is made quite evident.
The first thing I look for in a story - before plot, before prose, before any of the millions of writing "rules" an author is supposed to follow - is HEART. Pam Funke nailed it.
This is a book that must be read by all Americans that love their country. So many do not realize where we are heading if we don't wake up to what is happening in our nation and around the world.
I think everybody should read this book. If you think you are safe and things can't go bad for this country you are very wrong. A delightful book with a pleasant story this was the best book I have read in a long time. I couldn't put it down, even read it in the middle of the night.
I look forward to reading another book from this authors--soon, I hope!
When I opened this book and read the first page, I immediately closed my reader again and sighed. This book looked like it was going to be judgmental and preachy, and I'm an honest reviewer who doesn't like giving negative reviews.
However, I've read several of Pam Funke's other books, so I thought I'd read a little further and give this one a chance because I like the author.
I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised.
Most of this book was a well-written story. It was actually LESS "religious" than some of Pam's other stuff, and mostly focused on a tweaked retelling of the events surrounding the Boston Bombings of 2013. I enjoyed hearing the story from a different, less-publicized viewpoint, and although it was fiction spun off of a real event, it was an interesting tale in and of itself. Pam is a good storyteller, and I'm looking forward to her second installment in this series.
