Bentonville The Final Battle of Sherman and Johnston Civil War America Nathaniel Cheairs Hughes 9780807822814 Books

The Battle of Bentonville is the last time the Confederate Army took the initiative against the Union in a serious way. Within a few short weeks, the Army of Northern Virginia would be retreating to Appomattox.

This book document the battle between Confederate General Johnston and his ragged Confederates and Union General Sherman and his hiking, web-footed boys in blue.

The Confederates never had a chance, by this time Sherman's men had captured Atlanta after a long siege, marched through Georgia, burning all in their path and in South Carolina, they traveled across roads and bridges that they built on the fly.

The Union is caught by surprise, but rallies and wins the battle as their superior numbers are brought in.

A great book for Civil War History Buffs as well as casual readers.

This is an excellent source on the little known Bentonville battle. No research on Bentonville is complete without this reference.
Very good history about this battle.
Excellent ready on Sherman and Johnston. I need this book for a college course that I am taking lthis semester. It was the best buy I could find and I was glad to save $20 instead of at the college book store.
Quite well done, author is well informed, material is well presented, a hard subject for any writer. Kudos
This is a very enjoyable book to read and offers a detailed and well researched account of the final battle between Sherman and Johnston at Bentonville fought on March 19-21, 1865. This was the last full scale battle between the two opposing armies. The book has 9 maps which are well presented and the battle ones are very easy to understand and follow. Overall this book is a well documentated account of this very interesting and bloody battle.
Great book. Thank you.
Good read in history, one that is often overlooked during the final days of the war between the states
